Couples and Marriage Counselling

There is a misconception that couples should only seek counselling during major relationship crises. This is not accurate! Counselling is beneficial not only for addressing conflicts, infidelity, trauma, co-parenting, and financial issues but also for maintaining relationships by addressing common stressors like communication, intimacy, appreciation, and closeness. By consistently addressing and adapting to these stressors, couples can navigate life's challenges with unity and resilience. Whether you are facing difficulties with your partner or seeking to nurture your relationship, Rooted in Counseling offers strategies to build a lasting and fulfilling relationship.

FAQs

  • In your first session, your therapist will take the time to get to know you both equally. Initially, they will review a consent form and start to discuss with you what has brought you in for marriage/ couples counselling. Gently, your therapist will guide the discussion to have an understanding of the current issues and goals for counselling. They might ask about your relationship history, significant events, and how you both communicate and handle conflict. This open dialogue aims to create a safe and non-judgmental space where both partners feel heard and validated.

  • Numerous concerns can be tackled in marriage or couples counseling, including:

    • Improving communication by overcoming barriers.
    • Restoring trust and healing after infidelity.
    • Resolving conflicts while maintaining relationship harmony.
    • Enhancing emotional closeness and mutual comprehension.
    • Adapting to life changes such as parenthood and career transitions together.
    • Dealing with intimacy and sexual matters for a satisfying connection.

  • Often when people come to counselling, one or both people could feel hesitant. A lot of good can come from talking about cyclical issues, and honouring your relationship by spending time working on it! It's important to recognize that feeling hesitant is a natural response, especially when discussing personal and sensitive topics. A good counsellor will create a safe and supportive environment where both partners can express their thoughts and feelings without judgment.

  • Payment can be settled at the conclusion of the session using either a credit card or debit card. You have the option to receive the invoice either in printed form or via email. The invoice can be tailored to include personal health information based on the individual's coverage.
